Snoqualmie Valley Hospital is pleased to announce the decision to expand geriatric and general care services for the future benefit of District residents. The new menu of services however will not include a psychiatric component. Rodger McCollum, hospital administrator, speaking for the Board of Commissioners, said, “We are committed to bringing the best health care services to the communities we serve. Unfortunately the geriatric psych unit has had a limited impact on health care in our District and we wish to reposition hospital services and resources to focus more fully on providing care to the people who live in our service area and support the hospital."
Kim Witkop, MD, Snoqualmie Valley hospital’s medical director, said "services will expand to allow for more medical/surgical admits from the community. Outpatient services will expand to include hospital based clinics like chemotherapy, orthopedic surgery and rehab, cardiac care, and outreach services by internal medicine and geriatric specialty providers."
The hospital will begin construction on its new emergency department and remodeled facilities this fall to concentrate on better access to community health care. This focus on total geriatric care rather than a limited aspect of that care will better utilize our facility, staff, and community expectations of the care they can receive. There will not be a reduction in personnel but rather additional professional growth opportunities utilizing the tremendous experience of our staff.
