On Saturday, March 10th, Lake Wilderness Medical Clinic and Pinnacle Physical Therapy teamed up to hold their 2nd annual “Restock the Bank” event in support of the Maple Valley Food Bank. Volunteers gathered to wash cars in exchange for donations of food or money from local residents and businesses. When asked about the success of the event, Lake Wilderness Medical Clinic/Snoqualmie Valley Hospital, marketing director, Jessica Oliver, noted “our community once again has shown generous support this year through both monetary contributions and a substantial quantity of food.” Support for the event came in many forms. Several students from Tahoma High School’s Interact program helped by washing cars and organizing donations, while dozens of employees from Pinnacle Physical Therapy and Lake Wilderness Medical Clinic volunteered to help with the event. Each year, the food bank assists thousands of residents in Black Diamond, Covington, Maple Valley, and the Tahoma School District with basic food needs, emergency services, baby and school supplies and even monetary support for basic utilities. When asked about the strong support from volunteers, Pinnacle Physical Therapy owners, Josh and Staci Lyons, were quick to point out that most of the employees of both sponsoring businesses live within the service area of the food bank and that it was just another example of how supporting local businesses is good for the entire community.
The holidays always take a particular toll on local charity surpluses. This, combined with incredibly destructive weather this winter, has led to supplies being drawn down even further. This event is designed to “restock” those supplies so that the Maple Valley Food Bank can continue to serve the hundreds of people in this community that rely on it for basic needs.
