July 14, 2008 - Snoqualmie Valley Hospital Sponsors Healthy Aging Event

Snoqualmie, WA (July 14, 2008) – Washington State’s population of individuals 65 and over is predicted to increase 90% by 2020 and they will likely require two times the health care resources than those under 65. In addition, falls are the number one reason for injury hospitalization in the State. With this in mind, Snoqualmie Valley Hospital has launched a Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) campaign in our community to enhance elder health and fitness.

The Hospital is hosting a SAIL workshop on July 24 and special training on July 24th and 25 at the Cedar River Watershed Education Center (CRWEC). Your opportunity to learn about and help improve elder health and reduce falls has never been better!

Members of the public, fitness instructors and eldercare professionals are encouraged to attend an 8:00am to 10:00am presentation on Thursday, July 24th. Learn about the latest research from Hospital District medical and rehab staff as they discuss the importance of strength and balance in elder-friendly exercise programs.

Individuals and organizations wishing even greater involvement are encouraged to join a breakaway session that follows from 10:15am to 1:15pm. Discussions will include creating a coalition of Partners for Healthy Aging and promoting “Falls Prevention Week” in September.

A few vacancies remain for accredited Fitness Instructors to enroll in a two day SAIL training at the CRWEC on July 24th and 25th. Instruction includes a combination of lectures, practical demonstrations and laboratory sessions with seniors. Participants receive a completion certificate and CEU credits are available. Apply now, as space is limited.
